About

Kia ora!

I’m Wendy Hoddinott, a heritage landscape architect with a people-centred design approach.

I work with councils, iwi, and communities to care for and shape places of heritage significance, helping make clear, well-grounded decisions where heritage, development, and environmental change intersect.

My role often sits where things are complex, balancing protection with change, bringing together different perspectives, and providing advice that can be relied on when it matters.

I believe the best landscapes are shaped not only by expert knowledge, but by the people who know and care about them. That's why my work combines heritage expertise with meaningful engagement, creating opportunities for communities to contribute to the future of the places that matter most to them.

Through Place Cadets, I also work with tamariki on real landscape architecture projects, where children are meaningfully involved in designing the places they use every day. Their insights often reveal possibilities adults might otherwise miss.

Whether I'm helping protect a heritage landscape, guiding change in a sensitive environment, or working alongside communities with the design of their neighbourhood spaces, my goal is always the same, to help create landscapes that are valued, cared for, and connected to the people who use them.

If you have a project in mind, I’d love to hear from you!
