About
Kia ora, I’m Wendy Hoddinott - heritage landscape architect with a people-centred design approach.
For almost two decades, I’ve helped protect and shape some of Aotearoa’s most significant landscapes - guiding councils, iwi, and communities through the complexities of heritage, development, and environmental change.
Whether I’m writing a landscape conservation plan or advising on sensitive development, my work is grounded in deep respect for history, people, and place.
At Gather, I help make decisions clearer and projects stronger, by combining expert heritage advice with thoughtful design and community collaboration.
My expertise spans:
Heritage landscapes - conservation planning, expert advice, and strategies that honour cultural significance while navigating change.
Landscape architecture - design guidance that respects place, supports biodiversity, and responds to local values.
Co-design with communities and children - engaging people meaningfully in design processes to create places that feel loved, lived in, and owned.
I believe protecting heritage isn’t just about looking back. It’s about making places matter now and for the future. That’s why my practice centres people - ensuring those who live in these landscapes help shape what happens to them.
From school grounds to public spaces, I’ve seen how powerful design can be when we take the time to listen, reflect, and work together.
Let’s talk about how we can bring your project to life, whether it’s protecting a place of significance, adapting a site with care, or finding ways to connect people more deeply to the landscapes around them.
I’d love to hear from you!
